MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile Police Department says it’s investigating threats made on social media toward local Walmart stores. Police say they are looking into the point of origin of the threats.

Police and Walmart security are working to monitor the situation. Mobile Police say, “We are in the process of investigating the point of origin of those threats, and at the same time working with Walmart security to monitor the situation.”

The investigation is ongoing. Police say they will keep the public aware of their findings.

News 5 reached out to Walmart about the threat. The company says operations at stores nation-wide are operating as normal. Asset protections associates are monitoring all stores. Additionally, the company says data collection is used to determine whether or not a store needs additional security.

A representative from Walmart says the company hires armed 3rd party security as well as uniformed and ununiformed off-duty law enforcement to be present at stores determined to need additional security. Walmart says this is not nationwide, but some stores will see additional security. The determination for more security is made by data collected and asset protection associates.

Walmart Representative Randy Hargrove said, “We continue to focus on safety and make sure it’s a top priority.” The company also allows concealed open carry in jurisdictions where stores are located.
