UPDATE: 2-year-old dies after being shot at apartment complex

UPDATE 5/7/21 (3:10 p.m.): The family of the 2-year-old boy who was shot and killed Friday has identified the boy as Sebastian Carlton Mooney.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) – UPDATE 5/7/21 (2:23 p.m.): The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office says the 2-year-old child has died after he was shot by a man showing off a firearm to the child’s mother. Quentin Jerard White, 35, is charged with manslaughter, possession or use of a firearm during a felony and felon in possession of a firearm.

Deputies say White has been visiting the boy’s mother, and he was showing the woman the gun. Deputies say the gun discharged, shooting the boy once. The boy was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead. An autopsy is pending.

White fled the scene and was picked up an hour later. He’s in police custody on no bond pending his first appearance. 

UPDATE 5/7/2021 (10:31 AM) — ECSO says it was a 2-year-old shot at an apartment complex Friday morning.

The sheriff’s office is holding a presser today at 2 p.m. on the case. WKRG News 5 will update the story as more information becomes available.

ORIGINAL STORY- A 1-year-old has been shot at an apartment complex in Warrington, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO).

Deputies say it happened Friday morning inside a unit at the Pines at Warrington apartment complex on Navy Boulevard.

The condition of the baby who was shot is unknown.
