UPDATE: Body of missing 11-year-old Alabama girl found

DeKalb County, Ala. (WKRG) — 

UPDATE March 2 3:30 p.m.

The search for 11-year-old Amberly Barnett has ended in tragedy as Sheriff Nick Weldon confirms the child’s body was located around 6:30 Saturday morning.  

“We are diligently, diligently pursuing different avenues and Lord willing we will have answers in upcoming days. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers, and we move forward in this tragic event,” Sheriff Weldon shared in a Saturday afternoon press conference.

The Sheriff did not give any more details or answer any questions. Sheriff Weldon says his heart is shattered at the discovery.

Amberly was last seen wearing a navy blue hoodie with dark khaki pants at 6 p.m. in Collinsville, Alabama on Friday at her aunt’s house in the 1900 block of County Rd 822.

Authorities issued an alert for a missing 11-year-old girl early Saturday morning.  Here’s the alert from ALEA:

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Amberly Barnett. Amberly Alexis Barnett is a 11 year old white female. She was last seen wearing a navy blue hoodie with dark khaki pants at her residence at 6:00pm in Collinsville, Alabama on March 1, 2019. If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of Amberly Barnett, please contact the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office at (256) 845-3801 or call 911.
