JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WKRG) — Clean-up continues in southeast Mississippi a day after a tornado ripped through a tiny community in Moss Point. Jackson County’s EMA director says 16 homes were damaged by Sunday’s EF-1 Tornado. Most neighbors are thankful the storm wasn’t worse. Hours after the storm, neighbors gathered debris in neat piles on the side of the road; giant trucks from Jackson County were out first thing Monday morning squeezing the junk and putting it away.
“We’re just coming to help out, get as much as we can, we got a job to do, we’re going to get it done, however long it takes, however long it takes,” said County Worker Jason Brooks. Sunday was about securing homes and assessing the damage, today the cleanup really begins. Homeowners who made it through relatively unscathed were busy helping others who weren’t so lucky.
“It took a lot of people but everyone in the neighborhood pitched in to help. I’m going to relax today, I’m not doing nothing today,” said Joe Browski with a smile.
