Auburn gymnast injures both legs during floor routine

BATON ROUGE, La. (WKRG) — An Auburn University senior gymnast was seriously injured during her floor routine at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional on Friday, April 5. 

According to Auburn’s Women’s Gymnastics page, Samantha Cerio was injured on her first pass. 

The competition stopped while medical personnel helped her. Eventually, Cerio left the competition in a stretcher. 

Cerio was recently named to SEC co-scholar athlete of the year, according to an article on the Auburn Tigers website. 

The Tigers finished the competition with an overall score of 197.075, which is the highest NCAA Regional score in program history, according to Auburn’s Women’s Gymnastics page. 

The team is now using #StickItForSam in their Facebook posts.
