SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A Shelby County man was arrested on multiple charges, including placing a child inside of a dryer.

On January 12, Steven Todhunter, 25, was arrested for domestic violence abuse by strangulation and child abuse, according to jail and court records.

Alabaster Police say he placed a child under the age of 6 in a clothes dryer, closed and secured it with a chair and sometimes turned the dryer on. The abuse happened in more than one occassion between May 1, 2017 and May 1, 2018, court records show. 

Todhunter is also charged with domestic violence by strangulation or suffocation by assaulting the victim to cause harm. According to court records, between the same dates Todhunter held the victim against the wall, in a choking manner. During that time he choked the victim to the point that the victim passed out.

Additional court documents show Todhunter’s wife also filed a protection from abuse order filed in Bibb County in 2018, then transferred to Shelby County.

Todhunter was released from the Shelby County Jail after posting a $20,000 bond.
