“From where we started the program, we were at the bottom,” said Daphne boys basketball coach Cedric Yelding. “The kids fought and fought and now we’re a respectable program in this area every year.”
“All those years went through my mind, when we went 6-18 and 7-20, and now we’re having winning seasons and establishing marks like the 300 win mark,” Yelding continued.
Daphne basketball coach Cedric Yelding just reached a huge coaching milestone, 300 career wins. And most of those came with his hometown team, the Trojans.
“This is my community, I live here. I’m from Daphne. To be able to coach and teach at your community school is always big,” said Yelding.
The 300th win will always be etched in Yelding’s mind, but it was made even sweeter since it came against a cross-town rival.
“It’s just a testament to the kids we’ve had through the years at Daphne High School. It was an exciting night, the area championship against our arch-rivals Spanish Fort. It’s always good to get a win against the Torros but especially on win number 300,” said Yelding.
Coach Yelding said his dad served as inspiration as he helped build up the Daphne program.

“My dad coached for 40 years and won 500 games, he’s in the state of Alabama Hall of Fame, so I had a good guy to try and chase,” said Yelding.
