When the Mobile, Alabama Bowl debuted in 1999 it became the 23rd NCAA Division 1 bowl game. Twenty years later, the number of bowl games has almost doubled.
Tuesday it was reported that Boston’s Fenway Park will host a new bowl game starting in 2020 featuring teams from the Atlantic Coast and American Athletic Conferences. Los Angeles and Myrtle Beach will also host new bowl games.
Starting in 2020, a record 43 bowls will be played, including the National Championship Game. That means 84 of the 130 FBS schools (65%) will play in a bowl.
