Vigor at Escambia County football game moved up over safety concerns

High School Football

UPDATE (10/1/21): Escambia County Public Schools released a statement Friday explaining their decision.

“The game was moved up 3 hours in order to accommodate having a greater law enforcement presence due to concerns voiced from the other system. No specifics were given to us in terms of what all that entailed. Our superintendent, Ms. McClung, met with our LEA stakeholders yesterday (both city and county) in order to discuss best practices. Escambia County takes the safety of both schools’ students, as well as both communities’ parents and spectators seriously. Acting on the advice of LEA stakeholders, the Superintendent made the determination that a 4:00pm game and increased LEA presence was in everyone’s best interest.”

MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — Safety concerns force a local high school football schedule change Friday.

The Vigor-Escambia County game has been moved up from 7:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a large law enforcement presence will be at the stadium in Atmore.
