D.J. James Signs with Oregon Despite Late Push from Alabama

Spanish Fort’s signing day press conference was missing someone, D.J. James.

As the other Torro’s put on their hats and signed their letters of intent, James wasn’t on stage.

After the ceremony Spanish Fort football coach Ben Blackmon joked with the media that it had been a stressful morning.

“Over the last couple of hours I was talking with my parents to decide if I should sign on time with other people or wait,” said James. “It came down to Oregon and Alabama. Alabama came in this morning and was talking to me.”

James said Alabama offered him a full scholarship this morning, which made him reconsider his decision.

“They definitely made me reevaluate things. It’s Alabama, it’s the home state and home school,” said James. “I always liked Alabama.”

But in the end, James said he had to follow his heart, and sign with the Oregon Ducks.

“Just the coaches and atmosphere up there, it’s different. I love it up there, I can’t wait to get back up there,’ said James.
