BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Alliance of American Football could fold before finishing its inaugural season, CBS Sports reports.
A source close to the AAF told CBS Sports that operations were suspended for the day and “probably indefinitely,” although this remains unconfirmed.
Negotiations between the AAF and the NFLPA are at the center of the confusion over the league’s future. Last week, AAF control owner Tom Dundon threatened to shut down the league if the NFL refused to allow its practice squad players to participate.
The AAF is two games away from completing its 10-game schedule. The Birmingham Iron is among other AAF affiliates including teams in Atlanta, Orlando, Memphis, Phoenix, San Antonio, Salt Lake City, and San Diego.
