UPDATE: Pedestrian identified in fatal hit and run wreck

UPDATE (2/14) – The Florida Highway Patrol has released the identity of the pedestrian hit and killed by a truck early Wednesday morning. 

37-year-old Charles Q. Davis of Pensacola was crossing Plainfield Avenue when troopers say the truck hit him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG)  The Florida Highway Patrol put out the following press release on a deadly hit and run wreck from overnight.

On February 13, 2019 at approximately 1:47 a.m. James Alan Champitto operated a dark blue 2002 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on State Road 10, (US 90). As the vehicle approached the intersection of Plainfield Avenue, a pedestrian crossing the roadway and was struck coming to rest on the northwest corner of Plainfield Avenue, who was then pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical personnel. Champitto left the scene without leaving any information as required by law. Investigators received information regarding the location of the vehicle and owner who then identified the driver to investigators. Information led investigators to Champitto’s location where he was taken into custody at 7:20 a.m., and booked into the Escambia County Jail reference felony charges. Charges: 1. Leaving the Scene of a Traffic crash with a Fatality 2. Driving While License Suspended 2-counts with a Fatality
