UPDATE: Man identified in fatal overnight Pensacola crash

UPDATE (5:30pm) — The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the man killed in a crash on Michigan Avenue in Escambia County Wednesday night. 

 FHP says 72-year-old James Arnold Sorrells of Pensacola was standing on the road not marked as a crosswalk. The driver of the vehicle that hit him did not see Sorrells standing in the road. FHP says the driver attempted to slow down, but was unable to avoid hitting Sorrells. 

Sorrells was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital where he later died. 

Pensacola, Fla. (WKRG) — Florida Highway Patrol confirms that a man has been killed in a crash in Pensacola.

It happened near the intersection of West Michigan Avenue and West Shore Drive, just after 8 p.m. Wednesday evening.

The victim was struck by a car.

The driver has been identified as 58-year-old James Bowles of Pensacola.

According to the official report from FHP, Bowles did not see the victim standing in the roadway.

The victim later died from his injuries. FHP has not yet identified that victim.
