ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — One person has been shot and taken to the hospital in Escambia County.

The shooting happened at 28 Kennington Drive Thursday around 3 p.m. Those who live there say they heard a gunshot and ran out to find a man shot in the back.

“I woke up and saw an ambulance going down the street with lights on,” Kevin Herring said. “I got up and went to walk the dog and the street was lined with Escambia County sheriff cars.”

John Randall Waller, 22, is the suspect in custody facing aggravated battery using a deadly weapon and firing weapon on residential property charges. He also has no bond.

Virginia Bodey lives at the house and knew the two men were meeting each other but had no idea Waller would have a gun or that anyone would be hurt.

“I didn’t know that the other dude was going to shoot the guy when he came over here and I led him into an ambush and I didn’t mean to,” Bodey said.
