Three accidental infant sleep-related deaths reported in Escambia County Florida

Northwest Florida

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) – The Escambia County Florida Sheriff’s Office says three infants have died in accidental sleep-related incidents in January.

In one instance, the child was sleeping in the parent’s bed and he or she got tangled in the blanket and died. In a second instance, an infant died of suffocation after her or she got wedged between an overstuffed animal and a crib. In the third instance, a woman was breastfeeding her child and fell asleep. When the mother woke up, she found her infant dead.

Escambia County Florida had six sleep-related incidents in 2018.

To prevent future tragedies, the sheriff’s office released a public service announcement on its Facebook page.
