Santa Rosa County United Way board member arrested for grand theft

SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — A Santa Rosa County United Way board member has been arrested for grand theft according to acting administrator Kyle Holley.

Board chairmen David Willhoit was arrested on Monday by the Milton Police Department.

Holley told News 5 board members became suspicious when their bank called two weeks ago about the strange withdrawals. The first was on March, 8 for $2,000. The second was on March,11 for the $1,200.

Holley says as the acting administrator he can only approve invoices, he can’t write or sign checks. Holley says he could see right away there was no supporting documentation for the withdrawals.

Holley says he made a decision to file a report with the Milton Police Department on Friday, March, 15th.

Holley says this investigation is completely separate from the subject of the ongoing FBI investigation.

Back in October of 2018, then executive director Guy Thompson was fired after an internal audit and an FBI investigation into the organization’s finances. Both investigations are still ongoing.
