ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — A Pensacola woman is facing child neglect charges after deputies say she left a child alone in a car for 50 minutes
The report from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office states it happened on Thursday, April 11, after an off-duty deputy was approached by a woman who said a child was missing. The woman said she had been looking for the child for about 15 minutes. The deputy notified dispatch who sent in additional deputies to help with the search.
The woman said she and Diminique Austin, 32, drove to Walmart and when they got back to bring the groceries at her home, the child and Austin left her home.
The report states when deputies got in contact with Austin, they found her under the influence of an unknown substance and had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech and was stumbling around not able to walk. Austin said she was only able to remember going to Walmart and couldn’t remember when she last saw the child.
After giving information on the missing child, the report says she took deputies outside to where she thought the car was, but it was not there.
Shortly after, deputies were notified the car was found by the woman who originally reported the missing child with the child asleep in the front seat of the vehicle.
Austin was taken into custody due to the fact she could not properly supervise the child. Deputies report she even fell asleep during interviews with deputies.
Austin was taken to Escambia County Jail and faces a child neglect charge in a domestic violence situation with no bond.
