PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — Pensacola Mayor Grover Robinson says in the next month he would like to begin improvements on West Cervantes Street to make it safer.
There have been several calls for increased safety measures in the past year after an eight-month-old girl and a 28-year-old woman were hit and killed last year.
Robinson says he’s working to add more crosswalk signals, restripe the lanes and narrow the lanes to slow the speed on West Cervantes.
One safety measure that has already been implemented in the past year is extra LED lighting.
Robinson says West Cervantes is a state road, and in the next month a more cohesive plan should come from the state.
Robinson says the plan will make Cervantes more bike and pedestrian friendly.
Robinson says his goal is to create a street where pedestrians can cross safely.
