PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — A Pensacola man who hit eight Navy servicemen two years ago after the Flora-Bama Mullet Toss was sentenced on Tuesday.
Eric Watt was sentenced to five years in jail, two years of community control and five years of probation.
During the sentencing, the victims read impact statements about how the accident put their navy careers on hold. They also spoke about their various injuries and asked the judge for the maximum sentence for Watt.
In February, Watt pleaded guilty to getting behind the wheel on a mixture of alcohol and marijuana and crashing into the eight men on Perdido Key Boulevard.
Watt expressed his remorse during the sentencing and said he prays for the victims’ recovery each day.
Victim Jordon Lo says he just wants Watt to pay for what he did.
“I hope that this case will not be forgotten,” Lo said. “I hope that it will pave the road for future cases like this and spread awareness of drinking and driving.”
Watt also had his license suspended for five years.
