PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — A man has been released from jail after police say he crashed into a parked SUV while driving under the influence with a child in the car Monday night.
Pensacola police say Gilberto Andrews, 62, was driving east on LaRua Street when he slammed into the front of a GMC Yukon at G Street. That’s when everyone came out of the house to see what was going on.
“We just hear this loud crash and before you know it the whole neighborhood is outside,” Breyanna Chapron said.
“He crashed into my dad’s car scraping the side of it,” Brittany Chapron said.
Breyanna and Brittany live at this intersection and they came out Monday night to see Andrews’ car slowly headed east. They chased after him recording video on cell phones the whole time.
Andrews stopped at F Street and Belmont Street just a few blocks away. Police say the child was okay but complaining of knee and stomach pain.
“It’s definitely not good for children to be involved in any situation with intoxication at all,” Brittany said.
“After everything happened, I think our main concern was about his wellbeing and the wellbeing of the child,” Breyanna said.
Officials say they couldn’t understand Andrews when they asked for ID and proof of insurance. Later when they started a DUI investigation, they say he started screaming and threatening officers.
He was booked into jail Monday night with a $7,000 and released Tuesday evening. He’s charged with driving under the influence, hit and run and child neglect.
