PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — UPDATE (3:53 p.m. 5/11/20): Man-I-Cure Lawn Care Service next door to Trinitas Christian School on East Johnson Avenue caught on fire Monday afternoon. This started as an outside fire that spread to the business.
Fire officials say there is no burn ban in effect but they’re asking everyone to please not burn anything outdoors
Ron Gilley, Head of School at Trinitas, said some of his employees helped put out the fire with extinguishers and hoses until firefighters arrived. All students were evacuated safely as thick smoke was coming into the school building.
“There is no reason that we should not have burned up,” Gilley said. “God was just good to us. Those magnolia trees..when those flames hit them, and you wouldn’t think of a magnolia as being a dry tree that would catch fire really quickly, but they went up like fireworks,” he said. “Black smoke going right into the building. God was just good to us.”
The call was received at 1:05 pm and crews were dispatched to the 3200 block of E. Johnson Avenue for a three-alarm fire.
Escambia County Fire-Rescue responded with help from Pensacola Fire Dept. and Santa Rosa County.
Firefighters worked quickly to protect the school and knock down the vegetation that was on fire. There were no injuries reported.
The Pensacola Fire Department is on the scene of a fire near the Trinitas Christian School on East Johnson Avenue Monday afternoon.
It is unknown on what caused the fire to the lawn care business next to the school.
