PACE, Fla. (WKRG) — A 77-year-old man has been arrested after a girl claims she was sexually assaulted between the ages of 5 and 11.

Carl Wayne Castleberry was booked into the Escambia County Jail and the alleged incidents happened between 2001 and 2007 on West Ten Mile Road, according to the arrest report.

The report states there was another victim, age unknown, who was interviewed by sheriff’s investigators in January. That victim said she regretted not coming forward sooner because it could have saved the other victim. She said she didn’t report it sooner because Castleberry “is well known in the church community and looked up to by everybody,” according to the report.

The victim gave investigators a letter she said Castleberry wrote to her that said, “I have been reflecting on what I did to you. I have repented of the sin I committed toward you in a sexual manner. I know God has forgiven me, but I find it hard to forgive myself. I am so sorry for the acts I did against you. It has hurt me deeply for the way I took advantage of you. I hope that in your heart you can one day forgive me.”

The alleged abuse happened more than 100 times at night after Castleberry’s wife went to sleep, according to the report.

Castleberry is still in jail with no bond.
