DESTIN, Fla. (WKRG) – The Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners voted 5-0 to approve the ordinance regulating alcohol at Crab Island. Described by many as the happiest place on earth, Crab Island’s character could soon be changing.

The ordinance bans the sale, distribution and consumption of alcohol from floating bars at Crab Island.  The hugely popular island has turned into a Mecca of fun, sun and floating bars in recent years.

Citing the challenges faced by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and other first responders in providing emergency services to waterborne incidents, which they say is made worse by alcohol consumption, the ordinance also bans the floating barges that serve alcohol.
