OCSO: Hostage situation in Crestview resolved

Northwest Florida

CRESTVIEW, Fla. (WKRG) Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office says a hostage situation was resolved with no serious injuries Saturday afternoon.

OCSO said a man with a warrant for failing to register as a sex offender barricaded himself in an RV on Wisteria Avenue with two women inside. He refused to let the women out and threatened to shoot deputies multiple times. The man was removed from the home around 12:30 PM, about four hours after the incident began.

David Weiszhaar

49-year-old David Weiszhaar now faces several other charges. Weiszhaar had cut off his GPS monitoring device, refused to come out, and threatened several times to kill deputies before the OCSO Special Response Team tactically removed him. Weiszhaar, who had a syringe that tested positive for methamphetamine, threw a microwave and box fan at SRT members when they went in. His additional charges include resisting arrest with violence, threatening a law enforcement officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
