A teenager shot and killed Wednesday night is being remembered as a good person with a big smile.

Around 10 p.m., Escambia County sheriff’s deputies were called to a report of shots fired at Trenton Drive and Edison Drive. When they arrived, they found the body of 19-year-old Jaquan “Quan” Berry in the street. He had been shot multiple times.

Investigators are still trying to find who fired the shots. Sheriff’s officials believe this could be drug-related based on evidence at the scene.

The family he was staying with lives just about 100 feet away from where he died. They say he stayed out of trouble. He had just left their house and said he would be right back. He was scheduled to start a new job Thursday morning. Gennifer Davis, the woman who lives there and who he called “auntie,” described the type of person who would do this to Berry.

“A selfish person…A person that is selfish because they took an angel,” Davis said. “That boy didn’t bother nobody. He didn’t bother nobody. He didn’t stand no mess. He kept a big smile. Every time you see him, he had this big ol’ pretty Kool Aid smile on his face. I’d be like boy, you know you got a beautiful smile. He didn’t bother nobody. He would give you his last..the shirt off his back.”
