ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — A man from Pensacola pleads guilty to driving drunk in a crash that injured eight Navy servicemen in Perdido Key in 2017. This recent plea agreement brings to a close an incident that started nearly two years ago.
According to court records, last week Eric Watt plead guilty to getting behind the wheel high on a mix of booze and pot. Authorities say his vehicle crashed into eight servicemen walking along Perdido Key Boulevard in late April of 2017. The plea says Watt caused bodily injury to two of the men and serious injury to six of them. One of the most seriously injured was Jordan Lo. We spoke with him last year about his continued recovery and how this incident didn’t stop him from his dream of becoming a pilot.
“[I need to be] near 100% physically and mentally and just keep working at it’s not as easy as ‘said and done’ I’m sure but just keep improving keep getting better hoping to be the best,” said Lo. Watt faces a maximum of five years in prison, two years of community control and five years probation according to the agreement. He faces up to $12,000 in fines and will be ordered to pay restitution to the victims. A hearing for sentencing and restitution is scheduled for April 30th–exactly two years and one day from the date of the crash.
