CRESTVIEW, Fla. (WKRG) — A man is in police custody after witnesses at Twin Hills Park say he grabbed several ducks by the neck and threw them.

Shortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, Crestview police responded to Twin Hills Park after receiving multiple calls from people who observed a man grabbing ducks by the neck and throwing them into the water or throwing them against the railing of the walking bridge.

When officers arrived on scene, police made contact with 38-year-old Joshua Logan Demers, who police say continued his belligerence and caused a disturbance that was drawing a crowd of angry onlookers.

Witnesses approached officers and gave them cell phone video of the incident. Police say one of the callers, who also attempted to intervene with Demers while he was attacking the birds, provided video of the incident to include the images of Demers throwing birds.

Police say that according to witnesses, Demers also grabbed a pair of ducklings, effectively separating them from their mother.

Officers arrested Demers and charged him with disorderly conduct by breach of peace and cruelty to animals. Demers is currently in the custody of the Okaloosa County Jail.

The ducks were not seriously hurt and were returned to the water.
