High speed chase starts in Crestview; driver crashes stolen car

CRESTVIEW, Fla. (WKRG) — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating after a high-speed chase started in Crestview and ended with a crash in DeFuniak Springs. 

Troopers received information on a stolen vehicle around 9 a.m. Thursday and as they tried to pull the vehicle over, it sped away. The vehicle headed east and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office and DeFuniak Springs Police got involved. 

Officers deployed spike strips to try to stop the car. The driver crashed the car in front of Plateful Restaurant near U.S. Highway 331 South in DeFuniak Springs. 

The crash caused damage to a concrete sign base, light pole and it caused a water main to burst. 

Charges are pending against the driver. FHP has not released that person’s name yet.
