PENSACOLA, FL – Attorney and philanthropist Fred Levin is proud to announce the 2019 Fredric G. Levin Lung Cancer Symposium presented by Harvard Medical School and Brigham Health.  The symposium is  April 5 & 6, at the Studer Community Institute Building, 220 W. Garden Street, Pensacola, FL. Some of the world’s leading thoracic experts in medicine and research will speak on cutting edge topics in the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer over the two-day conference. This is the second annual Pensacola symposium, and it will continue eight additional years based upon Mr. Levin’s $2 Million endowment of a thoracic surgery chair at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 2017.

“I gave $2 million to Brigham and Women’s Hospital to thank them for saving my life,” said Fred Levin. “I’m told normally you have about eight months to live when you get a diagnosis like mine. Now it has been more than three years and from a health standpoint I feel very fortunate. I thought, ‘If they could do this, what might they be able to do for other people down here?’ Hopefully it will help here in Northwest Florida and even southwest Alabama.”

Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston is affiliated with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, one of the world’s leading comprehensive cancer treatment and research centers. The hospital is also affiliated with Harvard Medical School. Mr. Levin was diagnosed with lung cancer in January 2016, and his tumor was surgically removed at the facility several months later. As of the present time, he is cancer free.

The conference is now at capacity, but is open to medical personnel and students, as well as others who want to learn about lung cancer. Mr. Fred Levin, local community leaders, as well as administrators from Baptist Health Care, Sacred Heart Hospital, and West Florida Hospital will be a part of the welcoming remarks when the symposium opens Friday morning at 7:15 a.m. Media is welcome, please contact us if you plan to attend.
