PENSACOLA, Fla (WKRG) – Andrew Gillum is making a campaign stop in Pensacola Wednesday morning. Gillum is the Democratic nominee for governor in Florida. He’s speaking at Saint John Divine Missionary Baptist Church on East Jordan Street. There will also be a rally at 11 for Gillum at Arlene Williams Barbecue on Mobile Highway.
During the rallies, Gillum spoke about everything from healthcare to education. He says he really wants people to get out there and vote.
“We’re here because I want people in this community to know I want to be their governor too and I want to compete for their votes,” Gillum said.
The crowds were excited to see the democratic nominee. Geri Bell says she’s excited to see what Gillum can do for the State of Florida.
“I’m passionate about the gun control,” Bell said. “The education, teacher’s pay, police brutality, there are a number of things of Andrew’s platform that satisfy me as a person.”
Gillum is running against republican nominee Ron DeSantis. DeSantis made a stop in Pensacola back in July.
“I’m an Iraq veteran, naval officer, true conservative that’s endorsed by Donald Trump, the choice does not get any starker than that,” DeSantis Said.
But people in the crowds who watched Gillum today, spoke about democratic candidates coming to campaign in Northwest, Florida. Liz Simpson says she already voted for Gillum.
“He is a winner,” Simpson said. “He tells the truth and we believe in him. All the people on my block have voted for him.”
