Former Niceville police officer stabs parents then is shot and killed by father

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff says a former Niceville Police officer who was discharged in 2018 for psychological issues is dead after he stabbed his parents.

The sheriff says 29-year-old Erich Reitz stabbed both of his parents in their home on Blair Circle. 

Authorities say after Reitz stabbed both of his parents then he was shot by his father several times and later died in the hospital. Authorities say his parents are stable in the hospital.

The sheriff says Reitz stabbed his mother first and then his father, then his father went to get the weapon. Officials say they are still investigating what caused the dispute. 


Officials say there will be a press conference at 10:30 at the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office to provide more details on what happened. Neighbors who live in the area say they are surprised by the events because the area is usually so quiet. Hear more from the sheriff and neighbors on News Five at noon.


GULF BREEZE, Fla. (WKRG) — Deputies say three people have been injured in a shooting and stabbing in Santa Rosa County.

It happened just before 4:00 p.m. Tuesday on Blair Circle in Gulf Breeze. Two men and a woman were taken to a hospital with critical injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
