PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — Florida State Troopers want drivers to obey the Move Over Law.

The law makes it mandatory for cars to move over one lane when an emergency vehicle is pulled over.

FST posted a video where you can see a car hit a law enforcement vehicle, while the vehicle was pulled over.

Mike Wood with Pensacola Police says if you can’t move over a lane, you at least need to slow down 20 miles per hour below the posted speed limit.

“Well for a long time there’s been way too many police officers, and not only us but other drivers hit by cars in the right lane when they are stopped on the side of the road or broken down on the side of the road,” Wood said. “A lot of them have been hit and killed.”

Wood says drivers should move over for anyone on the side of the road, not just emergency vehicles. He says you can get a ticket if you do not obey the law.
