PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — The fire prevention officer with Escambia County, Ray Melton says it’s crucial students learn about fire safety.
Melton spent the morning at Oakcrest Elementary School in Pensacola teaching kids about stop drop and roll and what to do if a fire breaks out in their home. Melton says most of the injuries and fatalities are from lack of education. Melton says 62 percent of the fires within Escambia County are cooking fires.
Melton taught the students about the importance of escape plans and knowing where to meet family members in case of a fire.
Melton says he will be teaching students all week about fire safety.
