UPDATE: FHP releases information on deadly Perdido Key Drive accident

PERDIDO KEY, Fla. (WKRG) —

UPDATE (9:55 p.m.) — The Florida Highway Patrol released the name of the passenger killed in the accident on Perdido Key Drive Tuesday afternoon.

60-year-old Melissa Farmer of Portland, Tennessee was the passenger that died in the Chevy Captiva. She was sitting in the back of the SUV. The driver and another passenger in the Chevy were critically injured and taken to South Baldwin Hospital by helicopter.

The FHP says driver of the other vehicle involved, a Ford Escambia County Utilities Authority truck, suffered minor injuries and taken to Baptist Hospital.

The traffic report states the ECUA truck was traveling eastbound on Perdido Key Drive when it hit the rear end of the Chevy that was slowing down in front of him.

The FHP says traffic was diverted onto the shoulder which caused delays in the area for approximately two hours.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Florida Highway Patrol says one person is dead in a crash on Perdido Key Drive Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened around 3:09 p.m. on Perdido Key Drive and Lafitte Reef involving two vehicles. Two people were transported to area hospitals, one person has died.

Traffic on Perdido Key is backed up to Innerarity Point.
