ENSLEY, Fla. (WKRG) — A man is in jail charged with murder and a family is grieving the loss of the man who was shot in the chest early Monday morning.
Bobby Hawkins, 25, was arrested late Tuesday night and charged in the shooting death of Kyle Baldwin, 28.
“We don’t understand why anyone would want to hurt such a beautiful person like Kyle,” Angela Dixon said. “He was too young. This shouldn’t have happened.”
Dixon is trying to figure out how to explain to her young son that his godfather was killed. Baldwin also leaves behind a stepdaughter.
“All we can tell the children is that he’s now at peace,” Dixon said. “He’s at peace because down here was obviously a war.”
It was a war allegedly between Baldwin and Hawkins. Baldwin was known by most people as “Face.” Those closest to him decorated their cars and got their nails done with pictures of Kyle on them.
“He was a wonderful person,” Dixon said. “A beautiful soul.”
Deputies say early Monday an argument on Ensley Street later led to Hawkins firing shots into Kyle’s SUV while he turned from Sonnyboy Lane than he allegedly kept firing bullets while chasing after him. Kyle died not far down the street at Hannah Street and Pensacola Boulevard.
Hawkins is expected to make his first court appearance at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
