BREAKING: Sources confirm Panama City active shooter suspect is dead

UPDATE 4:19: WMBB reports two sources have confirmed that Kevin Robert Holroyd is dead. A resident of the apartment complex was grazed by a bullet while running from the scene.

 

UPDATE 4:00 WMBB reports that the suspect is down. It’s not clear if he is dead. Police say the suspect doused the apartment with gasoline before they made entry. Police are having to proceed with their investigation with extreme caution because the gasoline has made it a dangerous scene. 

UPDATE 3:11:  WMBB reports that Holroyd has a child who attends North Bay Haven Charter Academy Elementary School. The school has taken precautions, but children from the school have all been sent home. Holroyd has a criminal record including disorderly conduct and a felony record with the department of corrections. He’s 49 years old. WMBB reports that Holroyd was in the process of being evicted from his apartment where police now say he is holed up. 

UPDATE 3:05: A loud boom at the scene. WMBB reports the noise was the bomb squad making entry into the apartment building. 

UPDATE 2:45 According to WMBB, investigators say Kevin Robert Holroyd is the person holed up in a Panama City apartment building. He’s believed to be connected with a homicide in Santa Rosa Beach in Walton County. Investigators there identified the homicide victim as 30-year-old Clinton Street. Street was shot multiple times. Investigators say street is from Alabama. WMBB reports that Clinton Street was engaged to marry Hulroyd’s ex-wife. 

UPDATE: 1:45: Investigators confirm a death in Walton County is connected to the active shooter scene in Panama City

Walton County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a shooting death in the south end. 

Officials said the victim’s body was found at about 10 a.m. in the area of White Heron Drive.

Walton County SWAT and deputies are on scene in Panama City as well. 

UPDATE 1:29: At least one person is wounded and several schools in the area are on lockdown.

SWAT teams have arrived, and the bomb squad has unloaded a bomb robot on the scene.

Multiple law enforcement agencies have responded to an active shooter situation at 23rd Street and Beck Avenue in Panama City.

Witnesses heard dozens of shots coming from the area around lunchtime. Helicopters are circling the area, while SWAT officers swarm the area on the ground.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office has deputies at the scene in Bay County to help with the investigation.

Earlier in the day, Walton County deputies were investigating a suspicious death on White Heron Drive in the Santa Rosa Beach area, but it’s unclear if the two incidents are related.
