PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — Agencies from across the country came together at the Hilton Pensacola Beach for a cybersecurity conference.
The 2-day conference was hosted by West Florida University and the focus was cybersecurity and how to combat breaches.
The experts say everyone is affected by breaches and they happen almost every day. Last year’s ransomware attack on Atlanta could cost taxpayers 17 million dollars according to experts. They also say data breaches, on average, cost businesses 8 billion dollars a year. Diane Janosek with the National Security Agency says sometimes you don’t know when you’ve been compromised or when you’re vulnerable.
“There’s so many breaches every day,” Janosek said. “We only know which ones have been reported.”
Experts also say there’s a need for more cybersecurity professionals in the workforce.
