LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Meet Sally!

She’s a robot at UAMS–the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences–that is making customizable salads for customers.

“Sally makes made-to-order fresh salads,” says Tonya Johnson, director of Nutrition Services at UAMS. “We want people to have healthier choices the way they want them.”

The latest technology is all part of the “Get Healthy UAMS” initiative for the hospital to promote health and well-being among visitors and employees.

“What better way than with Sally,” says Johnson. “In our cafeteria, Get Healthy UAMS has increased the amount of healthy food and products sold.”

The customizable 42 oz salad is made in under two minutes. The customer can choose six of the 22 different ingredients and one salad dressing for their salad.

The cost is $7.99 and is available 24-hours a day.

“We are only one of two other hospitals in the nation to have this technology,” explains Johnson. “We sell more salads out of our Sally the robot than anywhere else nationwide.”

The robot is manufactured by Chowbotics, a Redwood City startup developing robots for the food-service industry, according to their website.

The robot costs approximately $30,000.
