MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – WKRG Assignment Manager Jennifer Rogers was recently diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. After her first round of chemotherapy, her co-workers showed up to show support by dyeing their hair blue and wearing blue. Blue is the color for colon cancer awareness.

Now bikers from across the Gulf are coming together to show support and help. They’re organizing the “Butt Out Colon Cancer Ride” to raise awareness and to help Jennifer as well.

The ride is scheduled for May 11th. It will start with food fun and music at Mobile Bay Harley Davidson. A police-escorted ride will lead bikers and other supporters to Bob’s Downtown Diner for a bike show, car show and a raffle. Registration is at Mobile Bay Harley Davidson starting at 11:00am. Kickstands up at 12:30. You don’t have to ride a motorcycle to participate. All vehicles welcome.

The American Cancer Society recommends that if you are at average risk, you get a colon screening starting at the age of 45.  If you have a family history, it should be earlier. Here is a detailed list of the recommendations.

Jennifer is one of the most talented writers at WKRG, and she is sharing her journey on her CaringBridge page. She would love for you to follow along. Please send her your well-wishes!
