ATLANTA (WIAT) — Running back Damien Harris decided to return to Alabama for his senior year instead of entering the NFL draft, and he says part of that reason was because of his love for the university experience.
“The mindset across the entire University of Alabama is that we’re champions,” Harris explained at SEC Media Days. “I love walking down the street and hearing someone yell, ‘Roll Tide!'”
He said coming back for senior year isn’t hard, because it’s something really enjoyable for him.
Harris also talked about the experience of being stuck on a boat in Lake Tuscaloosa with Coach Saban:
“It was horrible,” Harris laughed. He said it was fun though, seeing Saban get worked up about something other than football.
As for how he hopes the undecided starting quarterback role will turn out, Harris went with the standard response we’ve heard from the rest of the Crimson Tide today–he said they way they feel as a team is they’ve got two great guys that can step up and lead their offense. He says Coach Saban and Coach Locksley will make the best decision for the team.
Harris did say the way rising sophomore Tua Tagovailoa and rising junior Jalen Hurts push each other to be better is “remarkable,” explaining they’re respectful to each other, and come in every day and be the best they can be–that they don’t let the quarterback competition affect their relationship with each other.
