PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – Family members are planning a vigil for a pregnant mother who was shot and killed by her husband last week.

The vigil for Joi Nicole Spencer is being held at a relative’s home, 758 14th Avenue South in St. Petersburg, after the viewing on Friday, family members tell News Channel 8.  The service is open to the public.

Joi was seven months pregnant after she was shot at her home on Trout Drive in Coquina Key last Friday morning.

According to detectives, her husband, Kamion Spencer shot her in the chest, then called 911. Police said he did not intend to kill his wife and stuck around after the crime, waiting for cops.

Joi died of her injuries, but doctors were able to deliver her baby, Kai Spencer.

Joi’s mother, Debra Curry tells News Channel 8 Kai is doing well. The baby was taken off the ventilator and breathing on his own. Doctors plan to run an MRI Friday.

Kamion Spencer has been charged with manslaughter. His bond was set to $750,000.

A viewing for Joi Spencer will be held at Zion Hill Mortuary 1700 49th Street South, St. Petersburg, on Friday from 6 to 8 pm.

A Go Fund Me account has been created to help raise money for funeral expenses.
