Toy drive for Mobile Police Department honors Officer Justin Billa

Three Mobile businesses are hosting a toy drive for the Mobile Police Department. They’re collecting new toys to give to officers to keep in their patrol cars for children in the community.

The drive is meant to honor Officer Justin Billa. Organizers came up with the idea after hearing a story during Officer Billa’s funeral service about how he gave a toy to a child to calm them during a call. Organizers want to provide the means for other officers to do the same thing.

“We will take anything anyone wants to donate so the officers will be able to give out toys, carry them around in their cars and give them to children in the community,” said Leslie Murry, the Market Director of Sales for McKibbon Hospitality.

Drop-off locations are the Hampton Inn & Suites on I-65 Service Road, Springhill Toyota on Government Street, and McConnell Automotive on Dauphin Street.

The toy drive runs through April 14.
