Tornado Tears Through Pensacola Apartment Complex

UPDATE Wednesday, 4:47 AM

No major injuries or deaths to report at the Moorings Apartments.  This is the second week in a row Escambia County officials have been able to say that after a major storm.  In a way, it’s kind of a mircale.  Emergency managers say the timing of this storm helped save lives.

“Most people were probably just finishing up with dinner relaxing watching TV it being a two-story apartment the bedrooms were all upstairs and that’s where the most significant amount of damage was if it was an hour or two later we probably would have a lot different story,” said Captain Craig Ammons with Escambia County Fire Training.

A tornado ripped apart an apartment complex in Pensacola, Florida Tuesday night.

Three buildings at the Moorings Apartments on Old Spanish Trail Road were hit around 8:00. Only the bottom floors of the buildings remain.

Six people have been injured. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

Crews are on the scene now assessing the damage.

A gas leak has been reported.

A few minutes east of the Moorings Apartment Complex, at Grand Baroque, multiple townhomes were destroyed.
