It’s a very unusual crime to happen to any small sports club. Members of the Mobile United Football Club say someone broke into their soccer field behind the old Greystone school off Azalea Road the weekend of March 4th. Thieves made off with seven soccer goals. Two of them were full sized goals, three were small children soccer goals–and there were also two more for a total of seven. Organizers say it’s just very frustrating to have a crime like this happen.
“We’re a fairly good-sized club, the largest in Mobile, everyone from little kids to adults play and it’s frustrating because we fight for facilities,” said Facilities and Equipment Manager Danny Dunwell. The value of the goals is somewhere in the range of $6,000 to $7,000 dollars. They say they’ve had to hustle to find old replacement goals to get ready for upcoming matches. They just want to get their good goals back.
