ORIGINAL STORY – Reginald Blevins, a 30-year-old from Prichard, has been charged with the 2013 murder of Joseph “Joey” O’Brien on Springhill Avenue, according to the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office.

O’Brien was found shot to death around midnight on the night of October 23 in 2013. Officers with Mobile Police found O’Brien in front of the post office on Springhill Avenue near Broad Street in downtown Mobile. According to witnesses on the scene, O’Brien was riding his bicycle down Springhill Avenue when he was shot.

Blevins was arrested and booked into Mobile Metro Jail last week on a charge of safekeeping. While sitting in jail, a warrant was served to Blevins for the murder of O’Brien.

For weeks after the murder, O’Brien’s family held vigils to remember his life and also renew calls for justice.

“I can’t imagine that nobody has come forward and said that they saw something. It’s just really hard to move forward,” said O’Brien’s sister Kelly to News 5 after the shooting. Now three years later, a suspect is behind bars for the murder of her brother.

Blevins is expected to be in court in the coming days for his bond hearing. News 5 will be in the courtroom to bring you the latest on this case.
