DAPHNE, AL- Daphne Police have been looking for Herbert Crum since early September.
Police say Crum, AKA “Pop”, is a serial thief and stole power tools and valuables from four open garages at homes in the old Daphne area this month. In 2011, investigators told News 5 Pop was a suspect in as many as 63 home break-ins.
But accusing someone or even charging someone with multiple crimes doesn’t mean all the charges stick. In fact, Crum was only prosecuted and convicted of one felony.
Baldwin County Assistant District Attorney Chandra Paul prosecuted Pop in 2011. Paul says there was either not enough evidence to prosecute Pop for the 62 other burglaries police believe he was responsible for or some of the crimes were misdemeanors and were handled in city court.
Pop didn’t spend much time in bars. Pop entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to five years and that was split to serve to 30 days. Property crimes are given lesser sentences.
