Mobile, AL (WKRG)
A family in Mobile is upset after getting a rude message on a receipt. They’re calling it a form of bullying. When you get a fast food meal–no one expects to be called a “lil ugly dude.”
“We get the receipt and look at it and it says ‘lil ugly dude’ and I’m like really?” said Mom Teeneshia Bush rhetorically. Bush said her son went into the Wendy’s on Schillinger Road Monday night. 15-year-old Quenterus Brown said he couldn’t figure out why people behind the counter were laughing before he got his order. When he saw the words “lil ugly dude” printed at the bottom he ran out of the restaurant.
“It hurt my feelings, it made me cry I was embarrassed and I felt bad,” said Brown. For whatever reason there is to leave those three little words at the bottom of a receipt, the family said it’s not funny.
“Because you don’t go around making fun of people, you don’t know their situation, that’s bullying,” said Bush. She said her son deals with mental health issues daily and she wants employees to be better trained to not put rude comments on receipts.
“Don’t just put anything on the receipt,” said Bush. “Make your customer feel welcomed to come back and shop or visit your store again.” She posted the receipt Tuesday on Facebook and it’s been shared hundreds of times since. I’ve reached out to Director of Management Services at Wendy’s Ed Sheffield. He issued this statement:
“Wendy’s has been a part of this community for many years, and we were certainly disappointed to learn that one of our employees treated a guest in such a rude manner. We take this seriously, and we no longer employ this individual. When we learned of the incident, we immediately contacted the guest. We apologized to the young man and his mother and look forward to welcoming them back to Wendy’s again.”
