Pensacola Police say a convenience store clerk managed to wound a robbery suspect before the suspect ran out of the store.

It happened around 2:30 Saturday morning at the Beacon Store on West Cervantes Street.

Police say the suspect, 24-year-old was wearing camouflage, a hat and a bandana over his face when he entered the store.

He was armed with what appeared to be a handgun.

He left the store with cash and 10 cartons of cigarettes. But, before he exited the door, 20-year-old Abed Alslaq pulled his own gun and shot the suspect on his way out before calling the police.

Officer Patrick Kelly and his K-9 were called in to track the suspect.  Blackmon was taken into custody in the 600 block of North E Street and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Blackmon is charged with armed robbery, grand theft, wearing a mask or hood during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resisting arrest without violence.

Police say Blackmon claims the firearm he used in the holdup was a fake.

No charges have been filed against Alslaq.
