Police Arrest A Suspect In A Late-Night Murder

Mobile Police charged 42-year-old John Taliaferro Pitts with the late-night murder of another man in Mobile.

The victim, a 34-year old man, was shot to death around 11:30 Saturday night on Seneca Street. According to Mobile Police, he was found lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the chest. Mobile Rescue Fire pronounced him dead on the scene.

Following the shooting, officers canvassed the area where they located Pitts and detained him. The officers interviewed him and charged him with murder.

Around 5 a.m. Sunday morning, officers brought Pitts out of Police Headquarters where he was taken to Metro Jail.

Police have not released the victim’s name or a motive for the shooting.

A film crew from the TV Reality show First 48 followed detectives as they worked the case.
