PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla (WMBB) – Panama City Beach residents are reacting to news of President Trump’s upcoming visit to Panama City Beach.
Mayor Mike Thomas says President Trump will hold a political rally at Aaron Bessant Park Wednesday, May 8. This comes as residents wait for lawmakers to pass a supplemental disaster relief bill following the devastation caused by Hurricane Michael in October last year. Panama City Beach resident, Jeff Schaefer, says he’s concerned for those still suffering.
“There’s not a whole lot of help coming in here,” said Schaefer, “I don’t see it from the federal government or even the private sector.”
Schaefer says he hopes President Trump will address hurricane relief.
“There’s a lot of people here still hurting. And as you can tell it’s going to be a long time until we rebuild. Hopefully that’s going to be his main agenda when he comes into speak to the people here.” said Schaefer.
President Trump toured Bay County shortly after Hurricane Michael last October. The President also held a political rally at Aaron Bessant Park in October 2016, before he was elected president.
